pro m² designs DP World's new German headquarters in Duisburg: A modern working working environment with a maritime identity

The pro m² consulting and planning team has created a new, modern office logistics company DP World a new, modern office environment. The headquarters in Duisburg combines innovative work concepts with a design on 3,700 square meters, that reflects the company's maritime identity.

Merging two locations into one forward-looking concept

Due to changing conditions and requirements and in order to create an efficient and and flexible working environment, DP World decided to consolidate two locations in Duisburg.
The new location in Duisburg's inner harbor not only offers an attractive location with optimal connections to logistics hubs, but also the opportunity to
combine around 164 workstations in a well-designed, modern office environment. pro m² supported the company from the initial needs analysis to the development of a real estate strategy through to the design of the interior concept and the structural implementation.

“Our aim was to create a working environment that is not only functional, but also identity,” says Jan Oelze, Managing Partner of pro m². “In doing so It was particularly important for us to make DP World's motto 'We make trade flow' architecturally tangible.” The guiding principle can also be found in the lounge area and in the social areas.

Interior design meets corporate values

The design concept addresses three central themes:

  1. Industrial look meets corporate identity: the work areas are kept in muted colors and reflect the industrial character of the logistics sector. Blackmetal structures and wooden surfaces ensure a robust yet high-quality appearance. In the social areas, bright corporate colors such as orange and dark blue set strong accents.
  2. Flow as a design element: the location at Duisburg's inner harbor and DP Worlds corporate slogan “We make trade flow” are reflected in the interior design.
again. Wave elements in the carpeting and pixel-like blue LVT tiles in the Work Café create a visual dynamic that picks up on the movement of the water.
Curved light installations reinforce the concept and create a harmonious connection to the surroundings.
  3. maritime reference to the company's history: DP World is closely linked to shipping. An element that is reflected in the design of the space.
Wooden cladding in the reception area, benches and kitchen units are reminiscent of shipping containers in their and thus pick up on the maritime flair. In addition
old ship models were integrated into the design.

Flexible working environments for a new office culture

Modern working environments require maximum flexibility. The concept is therefore based on Activity working with a variety of work settings:

- Desk sharing in open office areas
- Project rooms with agile furniture
- Lounges and call boxes as places of retreat
- Arena areas for presentations
- High-quality video conference rooms for hybrid meetings

“The biggest challenge was to get all employees on board with this new office culture,” says Jan Oelze, Managing Partner of pro m². “In particular the creation of the open-plan workplace concept in conjunction with additional workplaces and retreat options meant a major change, which we accompanied with targeted communication and participative processes.”

With the new DP World headquarters in Duisburg, pro m² once again demonstrates how holistic planning, design and change management go hand in hand to create modern and
sustainable and, above all, feel-good working environments.
