Germany's first Positive Footprint Wearhouse convinced the jury of the Brownfield 24 Award with its sustainable concept and won the special prize of the German Brownfield Association for the best area revitalization. The award ceremony took place on May 25, 2023 at the former Louis-Eilers plants in Hanover. The award was presented for the fifth time this year and has established itself as a mark of quality for successful revitalizations of former brownfield sites.
"We are very pleased that our project has received this recognition and has now been rewarded with the Brownfield 24 Award," said Julian von Hodenberg, senior project manager at Delta Development. "With this project, we are designing something new on a site of great historical significance that has lain fallow for decades like an open wound. In the process, we are not only creating a new building, but also new jobs for the region. The Ruhr region was once known throughout Germany, and even internationally, for its coal and steel industry - now the greenest distribution center is being built here as a beacon for the region. We want to show what is possible on former brownfield sites and how a sustainable change of use can be achieved," Julian von Hodenberg continues.
With this innovative, Cradle-to-Cradle® inspired major project for Levi Strauss & Co., Delta Development is meeting the increasing sustainability demands on the construction industry. A key focus of the new building is the use of materials designed to recycle, conserve resources and reduce waste. For example, concrete foundations from the disused Wulfen colliery, which were located on the development site, were recycled and subsequently reused in the new building. The innovative large-scale logistics project is being implemented by Drees & Sommer in project control, Bremer BAU as general contractor, and the team of architects from Quadrant4 and Phase 5.
