Schwitzke & Partner realise Weleda flagship spa in the heart of Düsseldorf
The architectural firm Schwitzke & Partner has created the new Weleda spa concept at Kasernenstraße 2. Following Hamburg and Stuttgart, Düsseldorf is now home to the first flagship spa where the new brand identity is showcased in a spatial setting. A retreat for local and international visitors, where holistic treatments and natural beauty, well-being and care can be experienced with all the senses.
‘Together, we have created a place that reflects Weleda's values – sustainability, natural beauty and scientific expertise – in every detail,’ adds Tina Müller, CEO of Weleda AG. ‘The new brand identity, developed in collaboration with Schwitzke & Partner Architektur, impressively combines brand identity and customer experience.’
The Schwitzke Group was already active for the Swiss natural cosmetics brand Weleda at the beginning of the year: at the successful ‘Art of Beauty and Health Summit’ in Düsseldorf, it designed the Weleda exhibition stand in the new brand identity. The Weleda Spa is thus the logical further development of this collaboration in urban space.
‘This project proves once again how deeply rooted our beauty expertise is,’ emphasises David Schwitzke. ‘We are proud that Tina Müller has placed her trust in us and that we, as Düsseldorf architects, have been able to realise another milestone for the city with the new Weleda Spa.’
The flagship spa, located in the immediate vicinity of Königsallee, has been extensively redesigned and modernised. It covers 270 m² over two floors: the basement houses the Weleda store, where modular shelves display the high-quality natural cosmetics range – embedded in an organic room structure with greenery that references the Weleda garden and the brand's Swiss origins. An integrated lift leads to the upper floor, where a spacious reception area with a lounge has been created, designed for consultations, workshops and presentations. Digital screens have been deliberately omitted here – a clear commitment to tranquillity, deceleration and digital detox.
The interior design creates a dialogue between consistency and elegance: porcelain stoneware in the shop and reception areas ensures robustness, while easy-care flooring in the five treatment rooms provides optimal conditions for professional work. Surfaces in metallic champagne tones add subtle technological accents that underline the brand's innovative spirit. Medium-dark natural oak adds depth and contrast, and an organic design language rounds off the concept.
The new CI colour, a deep, vibrant green, is subtly reflected in the marble, furniture and textiles, shaping the atmosphere of the store and spa.
The partial renovation included the redesign of the rooms, the expansion of technical facilities and the use of flexible, indirect lighting scenarios. This creates the right atmosphere for every situation – whether massage, facial treatment or special application. The aim was also to use oil-resistant and durable materials that ensure suitability for everyday use.
Rita Wirtz, builder and managing director of Weleda Services GmbH, explains: ‘Our central concern was to combine functionality and sustainability to create a special place of well-being that offers added value to both visitors and the newly formed Düsseldorf Weleda spa team.’
