Agostino Iacurci creates Germany's largest façade artwork in cooperation with the Tertianum Premium Group in Frankfurt am Main

The Tertianum Premium Group is bringing the Italian artist and muralist Agostino Iacurci to Frankfurt am Main. The Tertianum Premium Suites are currently being built at Feuerbachstrasse 26-32 in Frankfurt's Westend district - a residential concept for the young at heart and those who want to consciously shape their aging. The internationally renowned artist is using the 2,000 m² scaffolding façade to place his 20-metre-high artwork “Green Oasis”. Iacurci has already presented his works in renowned museums and galleries around the world. He has also realized successful collaborations with premium brands such as Apple and Hermès.

Promotion of art and culture by Tertianum
“Top-class art and culture are part of the program in all our Tertianum homes. With Agostino's installation, we want to give a first foretaste of our fifth Tertianum home in Germany, which is currently under construction. As a partner of the Museum of Modern Art (MMK) and patron of the Frankfurt Opera, the Tertianum Premium Group is already committed to the visual and performing arts in Frankfurt am Main,” says Felix von Braun, Managing Director of the Tertianum Premium Group.

“After the Tertianum project team became aware of some of my previous temporary installations, they approached me with a request to design a new work for the project in Frankfurt's Westend. The extraordinary size for a work of art and the unique location immediately piqued my interest. It was an exciting opportunity to challenge myself and create something spectacular for the citizens of Frankfurt,” says artist Agostino Iacurci.

Artistic concept of the “Green Oasis”
The works in Agostino Iacurci's façade project entitled “Green Oasis” present selected trees from Frankfurt's city forest, highlight unusual plants from the nearby palm garden, integrate imaginative fantasy plants and thus form a unique homage to Frankfurt as one of the greenest cities in Europe. The installation thus also reflects the aspiration of the “Tertianum Premium Suites” to create a green refuge for residents in the middle of the vibrant metropolis. “The selection of these special plants stands for Frankfurt's international character, combined with fantasy plants that symbolize the city's creativity and wealth of ideas. The façade panorama shows different times of day, subtly hinting at the building's future use as a 24-hour place to live and work,” adds von Braun.

This is not the first work of this kind for Agostino Iacurci. The artist has already carried out significant installations in other cities. Iacurci has a particular affinity for projects involving socially relevant buildings such as schools and hospitals. Examples include the following projects:

The “Mario Penna Institute” painting at a hospital in Belo Horizonte in Brazil (2016). More recent works of art include “A premise of a Flower”, for a public community housing project for senior citizens in the Côte-Des-Neiges district of Montreal in Canada (2022) and “Disegno d'esame” for the Pascucci School in Santarcangelo di Romagna, Italy (2020). These inspiring works of art are intended to enrich the everyday lives of the senior citizens and pupils there.

“At the DPF Group, we specialize in investments and the management of sustainable forms of housing for the ageing society. We are constantly expanding our portfolio in this segment. A high level of expertise in art and culture is essential for the clientele of this type of housing. Against this background, Agostino is an ideal fit for us,” continues von Braun.

Tertianum's contribution to a sustainable metropolis
Frankfurt's commitment to its green spaces, which make up around half of the city's area, is highly regarded. The recognition as “European City of Trees 2014” underlines the city's commitment to caring for the more than 200,000 trees that provide shade and promote evaporation in parks, streets and public squares. “The commitment to urban green spaces has been a lasting inspiration for our project. The future 'Tertianum Premium Suites' in Westend will make their contribution with green façade elements, well thought-out planting on the roof terraces and balconies and a spacious courtyard garden with mature trees,” adds von Braun.

The existing office building from the 1980s is currently being revitalized by UH Invest GmbH. According to current plans, 121 apartments with spacious communal areas, several retail units and 103 underground parking spaces are being built on a total rental area of almost 10,000 m². This also includes a 450 m² communal roof terrace and a spacious courtyard garden. The building is expected to open in the first half of 2026, with letting scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2025. “Building in existing buildings reflects the spirit of the times and demonstrates our responsibility to rethink projects. By avoiding demolition and new construction alone, we save an enormous amount of CO2 and noise emissions,” explains project developer and Managing Partner of UH Invest GmbH Ulrich Huber, which has owned the property since 2022.

The building will be revitalized in accordance with the KfW Efficiency House Standard 55, which guarantees a high energy standard and low operating costs. In addition, the BREEAM certification level “very good” is being sought for the project, comparable to the Gold level of DGNB certification. The building will be equipped with a photovoltaic system to supply electricity.

Ultimately, there are also plans to recycle the “Green Oasis” artwork. Initial ideas for this already exist.
