Berlin celebrates 25 years of Tertianum Residence: culture, enjoyment and community

Yesterday, the Tertianum Residence Berlin celebrated its 25th anniversary with a festive summer evening, setting an example for joie de vivre in old age. Residents, companions and employees came together to celebrate the success story of the residence in the heart of City West. The event kicked off with a summer aperitif in the atrium, before Residence Director Georg von Thadden welcomed the guests. In his speech, he emphasised the important role of the residence: "Berlin is an open and lively city that is constantly changing and creating space for diverse lifestyles. Our residence reflects this spirit and shows that old age does not mean standing still. People in the third stage of life can thus remain part of urban life."

The residence welcomed Deputy District Mayor Matthias Steuckardt as a guest of honour, who praised the exceptional cultural programme: "The award-winning cultural offerings here are of incomparable quality – from Berlin for Berlin and for everyone who has found a new home here. I am delighted to be celebrating this anniversary. As a district, we are proud of this special place."

Actress and director Marion Kracht, a long-time companion of Tertianum Residenz Berlin, then addressed the guests with a personal speech and looked back on their years together. The residence has welcomed her to its cultural programme on numerous occasions in recent years, creating a close connection with the establishment.

A musical highlight followed immediately afterwards: the trio led by vibraphonist Oli Bott took the audience on a genre-spanning journey between classical music and jazz. Works by Duke Ellington, Maurice Ravel and John Coltrane merged into a soundscape full of energy. Bott was supported by Andreas Lang on bass and Heinrich Köbberling on drums.

Comedian Jörg Knör had everyone in stitches as he guided the audience through the evening programme with charming stories, parodies of famous personalities and several costume changes. He also actively involved the residents in his show. ‘Laughter is not only healthy for the body and mind. It connects people and creates a sense of lightness, especially in old age,’ said Knör. ‘It moves me to see so many smiling faces – faces that radiate warmth and joie de vivre and are proudly celebrating their home today.’

Guests were treated to a 4-course meal featuring classic dishes and seasonal specialities based on the creations of 2-star chef Tim Raue: French sophistication combined with modern lightness, which perfectly matched the festive atmosphere of the evening.
From 7:30 p.m., the anniversary evening came to a close with lounge music, lively conversations and happy faces that showed that life knows no age.
