Big, black, in the middle of Flingern - and very popular: hundreds of fans stormed the first basketball court of their favorite brand LFDY and were able to play right away. Many young people as well as families with children waited in a long line at the opening of the new LFDY basketball court in Düsseldorf-Flingern. And not without reason: Every basket hit was rewarded with a piece from the new collection - including around 300 T-shirts and hoodies from the streetwear brand. Many didn't want to miss the chance to win the coveted pieces and lined up in the usual LFDY nonchalance. The party for the community was accompanied by cool DJ sounds and free burgers from What's Beef. In addition, all Düsseldorfers as well as basketball and sports enthusiasts could watch the show match of the 3x3 basketball team "Düsseldorf LFDY", which recently won the German championship, live.
The basketball court, which LFDY makes available to all Düsseldorf residents for public use, is completely black. Based on the corporate design of the international brand, the court consists of a dark acrylic floor with white accents and the lettering "Live Fast", a black target board and a black basket net. In addition, LFDY's team provides regular cleaning at the court to keep it looking well-maintained.
"This basketball court gets everyone off the couch, promotes team spirit and strengthens the community. Playing together and training properly - maybe even new stars will be born here. We are very excited and watch how the court and the community around it develop," says Lorenz Amend, founder of LFDY.
The 55 m² sports area of the already existing Parkour Park at Schlüterstraße 18 was expanded with new benches, a new pathway and a new grass area. With this court project, the label wants to establish and actively promote more free sports opportunities for young people in the city, especially in the Flingern district. LFDY is thus not only committing itself to its home in Düsseldorf, but also creating added value for the location. In the future, sports activities for children and young people will take place here, such as free training sessions.
Responsible for the planning and construction of the basketball court were the architectural office Schwitzke & Partner and the architectural office Landschaft + Garten Udo Jochems.
