When a bank becomes a restaurant: Vegan burger chain "Swing Kitchen" opens location in Munich General contractor Schwitzke Project is responsible for the complete build-up

In 2014 the Schillingers from Austria had an idea: After their restaurant with vegan dishes had been very well received, they wanted to build on their success with meat alternatives and open a restaurant with elements of the U.S. lifestyle. "Swing Kitchen," which also invites non-vegan people to "swing by" once in a while and perceives itself as a contrast to the industrial dispatch in other fast food chains, meanwhile is presented at eleven locations in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Now the first "Swing Kitchen" has opened in Munich, restaurant number 12. The complete fit-out of the 170 m² space on Gabelsbergerstraße, which previously housed a Commerzbank branch, was handled by Düsseldorf-based general contractor Schwitzke Project. The design of the restaurant is based on the Vienna location and was designed by Derenko, the architectural firm that was planning the whole project. Within three months, the team from Schwitzke Project removed the stairs in the basement, laid new screed and installed the required fire and sound protection. For the interior design, a broad mix of materials was used: The counter is tiled in black, brick was used in the seating area, and white as well as light and darker wood tones were used for the furniture.

"The biggest challenge for us in the project: transforming a former bank branch into a modern restaurant. Many trades and materials came together in a very small area. Similar to a large restaurant, a bar, kitchen technology and various look-and-feel elements had to be implemented in a very small store area. Another challenge during implementation was, of course, the sometimes long delivery times of the technical equipment," explains Wolfgang Sigg, Managing Director of Schwitzke Project.

The project in Munich is the first cooperation between Schwitzke Project and Swing Kitchen, but more corporate projects are in the planning stage.
