Pop-up gallery ‘The SIXTY’ brings contemporary photography to the KÖ Gallery in Düsseldorf

Starting today, the KÖ Gallery will be transformed into a venue for contemporary photographic art for six weeks. Photographic artist and curator Wolfgang Sohn presents ‘The SIXTY – Contemporary PhotoARTinGALLERY’, a temporary exhibition space covering 600  square metres and two floors at Königsallee 60.

The pop-up gallery displays works by around 20 photographic artists, including Hartmut Ahlers, Adrian Bedoy, Frank Bodenmüller, Tom Bienert, Frank Dursthoff, Michael Heinsen, Tim Hillemacher, Markus Hoffmann, JR and Daniel Geo Fuchs (from the collection of Selim Varol), Killer, Pete Marifoglu, Christoph Michaelis, Dr Georgia Ortner, Kai Schäfer, Rüdiger Schrader, Klaudia Taday, Martina Ziegler and Wolfgang Sohn himself. Some positions are presented by renowned galleries such as the Leica Gallery (Sebastian Trägner), itself a tenant in the KÖ Gallery, and the Anna Laudel Gallery (Lennart Brede), also based in Düsseldorf. The accompanying programme offers a variety of formats: in the live photo studio, Wolfgang Sohn expands his mask series ‘Distance’ with individual portrait shoots that can be booked, while the artist talks give artists provide insights into their working methods and creative processes. A free masterclass with Canon photographer Sascha Hüttenhain on 19 November imparts photographic know-how (registration requested). A special highlight: tattoo artist HolgerKurt Jäger will be working live in front of an audience on 7 and 8 November, bringing the creative process of tattooing up close (motifs and prices are on display in the KÖ Gallery; early registration is recommended). Every afternoon, an ‘open projection’ will also show art and short films by Lennart Brede, Frank Dursthoff and Wolfgang Sohn. The exhibition photographs can also be purchased on site throughout the entire duration of the exhibition.

‘I am very much looking forward to six weeks of photographic art in the heart of Düsseldorf's Königsallee,’ says Wolfgang Sohn. "With “The SIXTY” at Düsseldorf's KÖ Galerie, we are showcasing contemporary positions from around 20 photographic artists and see ourselves not only as a classic art space, but also as an open forum in the heart of the city for exchange, encounters and creative processes."

"The KÖ Galerie stands for high-quality offerings in a special atmosphere. We are very pleased to be working with Wolfgang Sohn again and to expand our spectrum with “The SIXTY”, a cultural anchor point that brings art and the public together in a special way," said Alexander Balzer, Centre Manager of the KÖ Galerie.

The SIXTY is open until 14 December 2025 and can be visited Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
