Speckmanns: New catering concept at Dresden Central Station Schwitzke & Partner combines tradition with modern design

Areas Deutschland Holding GmbH opened the new restaurant concept “Speckmann's - Deutsche Köstlichkeiten” at Dresden's main railway station at the end of March 2025. Covering around 330 m², the restaurant designed by Schwitzke & Partner combines traditional German cuisine with modern design and an inviting atmosphere.

The design concept of the new “Speckmann's” takes up the historical architecture of Dresden's main railway station. The characteristic round arches of the windows are reflected in the dividing elements of the restaurant, enhancing the special effect of the room. The seven-metre-high ceilings are elegantly accentuated by stylish pendant lights, further enhancing the ambience.

"Our aim was to transform a fast food restaurant into a culinary slow food experience. By combining tradition and modernity, we are setting new standards for German cuisine in the fast food restaurant segment," says Lukas Schwitzke, Managing Director of the Schwitzke Group.

“With Speckmann's, we are creating a place at Dresden Central Station that brings travelers and visitors closer to familiar flavors and the diversity of German cuisine - authentic, uncomplicated and with attention to detail,” says Klaus Bahr, Operations Director, Areas Germany.

In addition to the interior design, Schwitzke ID also developed the logo, the name, the advertising lettering and the branding concept for the new restaurant.

The comprehensive redesign also included a complete redesign of the kitchen, the development of a customized lighting plan, the renovation of the floor and ceiling and the partitioning of adjoining rooms.
